Montefalco rosso DOC
A lovely full-bodied red with ruby red colour and bright violet reflections, intense bouquet with notes of cocoa, green spices, cloves, cinnamon, with wild berries and plum jam on the finish; the flavour is harmonious with dense, soft and mature tannins, balanced acidity and a lingering, moderately austere finish.

- grape varietalsSangiovese (70%), Merlot (20%) and Sagrantino (10%); double spurred cordon pruning system; Sagrantino harvested in October, the other two in September
- vinificationFermented in stainless steel with skin maceration for 25 days; then barrique aged 12 months and bottle aged for 6 months before release to the market, according to legislation, at 18 months from harvest
- food pairingsHighly versatile, particularly enhanced by red meat roasts, game, venison, charcuterie and aged cheeses. Serve at 16°C (61°F) in large stem glass
- sizes375 ml; 750 ml
- anecdotesRosso di Montefalco is softer and easier to drink than Sagrantino, thanks to the varietals included in the blend; it has its own DOC appellation.
On the label is a view of the Montefalco winery and in the foreground, a falcon, symbol of the area, where traditionally falcon hunting, the great passion of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia, was practiced.
