For all those who are awaiting it, July 30th is the day: intense ruby red, hints of jam, prune, bilberry and cloves; dark chocolate and spices on the finish. In a nutshell: great complexity and soft sweetness.
Lungarotti Sagrantino Passito
Available starting 30th July 2010
During the Vitigno Italia wine show, held in Naples from May 16-18th in the prestigious setting of Castel dell’Ovo, Lungarotti Sagrantino 2007 obtained first place in the “Perfect Wine” competition and best red wine of the show.
A red with great polyphenolic richness, Lungarotti’s Sagrantino has the typical characteristics of the varietal: intense purple-red, complex bouquet of red fruits, marasca cherry, bilberry and raspberry with delicate notes of sweet tobacco and cocoa, finishing with notes of officinal herbs. The dense and harmonious structure with rich tannins and great texture, fruitiness supported by a fresh acidity and persistent finish of jam.
It is distinguished by an unexpected yet pleasant fluidity of the tannins, a characteristic that makes it soft on the palate despite the great polyphenolic richness. Sagrantino has great polyphenolic complexity: a wild horse that must be discovered and tamed with proper viticultural practices so that, like the other Lungarotti wines, it may speak a harmonious and balanced language.
On the label a depiction of the Montefalco winery with the falcon that is a symbol of the area in which falcon hunting was a tradition as well as the great passion of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia.
